Mission Statement

The Exeter Public Library provides diverse and easily accessible materials, services and programs in an atmosphere that encourages the free flow of ideas to educate, inform, enrich and entertain the citizens of the community.

Library Service Policy

The Exeter Public Library serves the Town of Exeter and surrounding communities. The Library serves all people without regard for age or sex, religious or ethnic background, educational ability, or economic status; and provides equal access to resources for all, without question of user purpose. While borrowing privileges extend only to persons with a valid Ocean State Libraries (formerly CLAN) library card, all are welcome to use the library’s print and online resources and attend library programs.


Library Circulation Policy

While the Exeter Public Library is a member of the state-wide Ocean State Libraries network, the following circulation policy refers to the Exeter Public Library only. Each library sets policy at the local level. Circulation Policies at other libraries may be different.

As a member of the Ocean State Libraries network, a library card in good standing from the Exeter Public Library can be used at any Rhode Island public library. The Exeter Public Library accepts library cards in good standing issued from any Rhode Island public library. A card is considered in “good standing” when there are less than $5.00 owed in overdue fines and there are no overdue or lost materials checked out on the card. Library materials checked out at the Exeter Public Library may be returned to any public library in Rhode Island.   CLICK HERE FOR THE COMPLETE POLICY

General Loan Rules

Books, Audiobooks:   3 week loan, $.10 per day overdue fines

DVDs, Music CDs, Magazines:    1 week loan, $.10 per day overdue fines

Television Series on DVD (more than 3 discs):   3 week loan, $.10 per day overdue fines


Library Program Room Policy

When Program Room at the Exeter Public Library is not needed for library purposes, it can be made available for use by community groups and non-profit organizations engaged in informational, educational or cultural meetings and programs.

Computer and Internet Policy

The Exeter Public Library provides access to public computers free of charge. Users must log in using their library card, or with a Guest Pass given to them by Library Staff. By using the Library’s computers or using the Library’s wireless Internet connection, patrons agree to follow existing copyright rules, software license restrictions and Internet regulations.
